How to Draw a Fish

In this lesson, we will learn how to draw a Betta fish, one of the most beautiful fish.

Step 1

The outline of Betta fish. Draw a long oval, with a circle for the fisheye and a sketch of the fishtail.

Step 2

Draw the fins of Betta fish. Male Betta fish possess prominent fins that should be emphasized in your drawing. Use wavy lines to draw the upper fin, dorsal fin, and tail fin, which is directly under the belly.

Step 3

The drawing of a fish is almost ready. In this step, you need draw fins in detail. So if you manage to add wave to each fin, your fish will look graceful and more realistic, as if it is floating.

Step 4

The details of fish drawing. In this step, you will work on the details of your Betta fish drawing. Draw the pectoral fin, which is located near the gills. Place a pupil inside the eye and then draw a line around the eyes. Then draw a small longer fin under the fish eye and extend it slightly from the ventral fin.

Step 5

Fish drawings. Final step. Erase all unnecessary sketches left over from previous steps. Now you can think about the landscape. You cannot convey the whole beauty of this fish without coloring it in with bright patterns. Or you can just give it the coloring of a goldfish.
